Quote of the Week

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.’ We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we’re liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. ” – Marianne Williamson

Battered, Bruised & Ready For More!

{Photo from www.CrossFit.com}

So, who had their ass handed to them during the CrossFit Games Open WOD #1 this past week with all those burpees? I managed to pull off 66 reps, just 4 shy of my goal! Despite aiming for 70 reps, I felt like 55 was where I would actually end up, so overall I made out like a bandit.

If I could redo the scenario, I would have to done what Kristen Clever did: Do the Open WOD on the day it came out (Wednesday) with enough time to recover and try it again on Sunday. Most everyone I saw that tried the WOD a second time around increased their reps by a minimum of 10.  How many reps did you get? What kind of skills / movements are you hoping for in the coming WODs? I really want some clean & jerks, personally.

2012 CrossFit Games Open: I Registered!

I did it. I registered for the CrossFit Games Open. I read what the 1st WOD was last night, and then I had dreams that I owned those burpees. So naturally, when I woke up I felt an overhwhelming sense of urgency to register. Like it had to be done – like there was no other option. I know (this time, anyway) I won’t make it to Regionals, and that’s okay, because I’m doing this to challenge myself. There are also a handful of people from my box that are doing it too, and I feel an even deeper connection to those people for having signed up. I don’t know how it will play out, and I don’t care. I just want to see what I’m really made of, because I know it’s more than just tears and red hair. Let’s dooooooo this!

2012 CrossFit Winter Shakedown Competition in Photos

This past weekend I went to the Winter Shakedown Competition at CrossFit FAST in Westlake Village to support our team from CrossFit 310 & to snap some photos of all the fantastic athletes that came out to compete. It was a great turn out, and the event ran smoothly. They even let me inside the athlete ring to snap photos during the 1st WOD! I bought some tanks from Life AsRx, ran into & met the co-owner of WOD Gear (Gabriel Pelino) at Starbucks, who is a totally sweet guy, and I (and pretty much everyone else) also drooled over Andrea Ager’s (pictured first below) quads and sweet rope descent. Major congratulations to our 310 team Brook Epperson, Jason Tank, Brittny Burford & Graham Burford! Our gym’s continued success is a joy to watch.  – Rebecca The Red
