Eating Zone: Postponed!

30 May

As much as I want to continue eating Zone right now, and show you all the progress that can be made from week to week, I’ve come to the realization that I chose the wrong time to start. I had to be honest with myself before I failed at what I set out to prove. The thing is, I’m just too busy! I know this sounds like an excuse, but let me explain. Of course I’m not too busy to eat healthy (that goes without saying), but I am too busy (right now) to measure out the food. Sometimes I’m even too busy to grocery shop, and worse: too busy to eat every meal I’ve planned out. My sleep has suffered due to studying for finals, preparing for a move, taking on extra side jobs in addition to my full-time job, and other various things happening in my life that suck up every minute of my day. So the time I would have spent in the kitchen measuring everything out, is now used for whatever sleep I can squeeze in, which has been around 6 hours or less each night, and believe me when I say, it’s showing (on my face, and in my WODs).  I’m an 8 hour kind of girl, so this (temporary) adjustment has severely altered my life, and so basically I’m in survival mode at this point.

The good news is, I will pick it back up in a couple of weeks, and resume where I left off with photos, meal break downs etc. But I wanted to say thank you for following along, and being supportive. In the meantime, I hope I can inspire & motivate in other ways.

Have A Great Weekend

9 Mar

What are you up to this weekend? Per usual, I’ll be dedicating my Saturday morning to completing the 12.3 Open WOD. I have been incessantly watching how-to videos, desperately trying to perfect a recycle on one or all of the movements. So far, I have to say I’ve been pretty unsuccessful (with the exception of *maybe* the push press, although it’s far above my latest PR). . . but I have faith that the CrossFit Gods will shine their magic light upon me and something magical will happen. Have any of you done 12.3 yet? What was your overall score? At what point in the 18 minutes did you want to quit? Post in the comments section, and here are some posts from around the web . . .

Look Ma, No Bands!

It’s been a year in the making, but I’ve finally graduated to kipping pullups, which means I’m officially band-free. The very thought of never having to scale with a band again is such a freeing feeling, and indicative of the athlete that’s finally crawling out from under my inner fat kid, who’s been sitting on untapped potential for some time now.

What’s on your suck list, and what are you going to do about it?

CrossFit Games Open 12.2 Recap

5 Mar

Let me first start off by saying that 12.2 was an amazing WOD. It was definitely intended to separate the elite CrossFitter from the novice… So why was it so amazing then? Well, despite its purpose of sifting through athletes to bring the best to the top, it gave the novice CrossFitter a chance to truly triumph. I witnessed so many PR’s in this WOD (just in our box alone), and it was incredible to be a part of. I watched people dig deeper than I think I’ve ever seen them go, and that was inspiring.

As for me? I really didn’t believe that I could get more than thirty reps. My one rep max for snatches was 45 lbs in early February, so how exactly was I supposed to snatch 45 lbs thirty times, and then move onto 75 lbs snatches (thirty times)? Well, it happened. The first rep at 75 was notably difficult, but it seemed to get easier with each rep as I adjusted more and more to the technique. Then it became a race for the clock. I managed to get in ten reps at 75 lbs, which is probably the biggest PR I’ve experienced thus far in my CrossFit journey. I’m very satisfied with my score and cannot wait to see what 12.3 brings. I’m ready for more!

Thank you CrossFit HQ for coming up with these WODs. I know there’s been some negative feedback associated with them, but please know that there are some of us who see the value and purpose in them, and appreciate the opportunity to be a part of it.

Battered, Bruised & Ready For More!

27 Feb

{Photo from www.CrossFit.com}

So, who had their ass handed to them during the CrossFit Games Open WOD #1 this past week with all those burpees? I managed to pull off 66 reps, just 4 shy of my goal! Despite aiming for 70 reps, I felt like 55 was where I would actually end up, so overall I made out like a bandit.

If I could redo the scenario, I would have to done what Kristen Clever did: Do the Open WOD on the day it came out (Wednesday) with enough time to recover and try it again on Sunday. Most everyone I saw that tried the WOD a second time around increased their reps by a minimum of 10.  How many reps did you get? What kind of skills / movements are you hoping for in the coming WODs? I really want some clean & jerks, personally.
